Annual Human Food Chain

You are invited to participate in our Annual Human Food Chain on November 8, 2026. We’ll gather food over the next few Sundays and carry it down to the Waterbury Common Market in an act of solidarity with the food insecure in our community. According to a report early in October, the Waterbury Common Market, for the second month in a row, broke it usage records, serving 235 people in September. No surprise to you, since we’re all feeling it, we expect that number to continue to climb. The Common Market accepts food donations and cash donations anytime of year and they are very welcome anytime of year.

But for the second Sunday in November, we’ll carry down main street, bags of groceries, a visible sign that many of our neighbors suffer the indignity of not being able to afford food for themselves. Sara Whitehair has provided a list of food stuffs and other items (things they cannot buy with their SNAP benefits) that are in demand right now.

  • Hearty soups
  • Snack items
  • personal care items
    • shampoo
    • conditioner
    • feminine care products
  • Household cleaners and sponges.

We hope you can join us on November 8 right after your post-worship cuppa.
