Advent Study
10/31/20251 min read
The soaring choruses and contemplative arias of Handel's Messiah invite us into Advent's transformative spirit, offering a musical sanctuary from the premature Christmas jingles already blaring from every screen and speaker. What better way to experience Advent, as its own season, than through the music of Messiah?
I invite you to join us for "Metanoia — Seeing Messiah with New Eyes," where we'll explore how this masterwork isn't about passive waiting, but about awakening to divine presence breaking into our world now. Over four weeks, we'll listen closely to four different sections and experience together how Handel reveals another dimension of God's incarnation in forms and places we've been conditioned to overlook. The great reversal is here too!
No theological background or musical training required—just bring your openness to be moved by beauty that has spoken to generations, and a willingness embrace Advent's call awakening our hearts and minds to Christmas's deeply countercultural message: that divine power appears not in domination but in vulnerability, not in spectacle but in the quiet corners of our world.
This isn't countdown-to-Christmas music; it's an invitation to transformation. Join us on Tuesday evenings, December 2, 6:30 PM for 45 minutes to an hour in the chapel. Simply show up; no registration needed.
Welcome
