Information for this year’s online Annual Meeting

Befitting a year unlike any our histories, our annual meeting will also be without precedent. But we’ve all become fairly accomplished with Zoom, so we don’t anticipate any problems.

Our annual meeting is on Sunday, January 31. We’ll meet for worship with the usual zoom link. I aim to give the benediction at 10:40 so that our meeting can start at 10:45. If you plan to stay for the meeting please do not log out. We’ll take a quick break and call the meeting to order at 10:45.

As usual, don’t forget to mute yourself. Conversely, if you are speaking, don’t forget to unmute yourself. If you would like to make a point or ask a question during any of the discussions about the motions before us, you may “raise your hand” which you can do by clicking on the reactions button at the bottom of your screen, or you can send a note through the chat system which will be open.

Carla Lawrence, our moderator, will run the meeting and I will keep my eye on chat for her. If you have any questions beforehand, you may email them to me or to Carla and we will make sure to read the question and get it answered during the meeting.

We will attempt to “vote” on the various proposals using what Robert’s Rules calls ‘general consent.’ Carla, the moderator will say, “If there is no objection, the motion will be adopted.” Here there will be a long pause to allow for someone to object. If there is no objection, she will continue, “since there is no objection, the motion is adopted.”

Please note that we will have Zoom’s polling feature enabled. In the event there is an objection because it seems a vote would be prudent, we will run the poll. The only hitch here is that you only get one vote per machine, ie., if there are two people on one zoom window, you only get one vote.

Thank you to our Musicians

I speak here for a great number of folk who have told me, and I have heartily concurred, how wonderful and beautiful the music was over the holidays. How amazing to hear our choir sing together again on Christmas Eve! How steadfast and consistently excellent have been Mary Jane and Erik, week after week, recording, editing and sending out video files of anywhere from three to six pieces of music.

None of this is easy. All of it seems to us so effortless. And we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Christmas Eve – 5 PM

Please note the change: our Christmas Eve Service this year will be at 5 pm!

It’ll be a Christmas Eve unlike any as we celebrate together on this holy night the birth of Jesus. It’ll be an evening of music and good ol’ gospel reading — the story from Luke that provides never-ending entertainment, never-ending meaning, perpetual wonderment.

We will, as we have been all through most of this odd and frightful year, meeting via zoom. We’ll use the same Zoom link as we do for Sunday morning services (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87241248285?pwd=bVlpb2Rvblpsd3IvdHZkUkNzU0U0dz09). We will have only one service this year, as we are not limited by space. As usual, if everything goes according to technological Hoyle, the choir will sing several pieces and we’ll have a few guest readers to tell the story.

And, as always, we’ll conclude by singing Silent Night, led by our choir. Please stop by the church sometime before December 15 to pick up a candle. Also, as always, we will be taking an offering which will go, all of it, to the Waterbury Good Neighbor Fund — neighbors helping neighbors in times of need.

Please pick up a candle!

Christmas Outreach

The Board of Outreach will again facilitate a way for you to give back to the community this year.

Because of the lock-down at the Kirby House though, the board has decided to help collect Christmas gifts for the Toys-for-Tots program. All you have to do if you’d like to help a bit is purchase a toy or a game and bring it to the church. These are not to be wrapped. Members of the Board of Outreach will take all of the collected toys to the collection location later this month.

Please make the drop-off by Wednesday, December 16!

We’ll have a box in the dining room for that purpose. You may also mail a check into the church and the board will purchase toys. Make the check out to the church and put Toys-for-Tots in the memo line.

And don’t forget to shop locally!

Thanks!
