The Lent “Bending” Floral Displays

In order from top left to bottom right:

  • Bending our way through Lent — “We are afflicted but not crushed, bent over with burdens but not broken!”
  • Faith and Uncertainty — “Do not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your intellect, so that you may discern what is the will of God.”
  • Light as a feather — “Love bears all things . . . “
  • Dogging — “Yes, Rabbi, but even the dogs under the table eat the family’s scraps.”
  • Palm Sunday — “God so generously loved the world that he placed his only son here, so that everyone who has confidence in him may not be lost or be destroyed but may have eternal life.”

Thank you Ned Davis for all your magnificent work on these beautiful Lenten reminders that we bend but don’t break, we seek continually without the illusion we arrive, and in and by love we bear all things.

Art Show – Bridging Contrast

On display now in our sanctuary is a new work by Kelley Taft of Duxbury called “Bridging Contrast.” It is on display October 15 through November 30. The exhibit features 30 mixed media and assemblage pieces that combine a strong visual element of contrast with possibilities for bridging the contrast that exists within the self, within relationships, and in the world.

Viewers are invited to share their own stories and reflections on the question the art explores: “How do we bridge contrast?” in a designated area of the exhibit. Community engagement is welcome and encouraged!

Opening Reception Sunday October 22 at 11:15 am. All are welcome.

*The church will be open Tuesday through Friday from 8 am – 4 pm for self-guided viewing. Enter through the side door and go up the stairs and then back toward the front of the building. Follow the signs!

Kelley Taft engages with the beauty and the questions in life as a Life Coach and through art and photography. She can be reached at therippleeffectvt@gmail.com.

New Art Show!

On Wednesday morning (10/5), a group of friends who call themselves Photographers Workroom, gathered to begin the process of lovingly hanging the fruits of their imaginations upon the walls of our sanctuary. Whenever two or three artists gather to hang a new show, I always sense a good creative vibe, like they are wrapping a gift for a loved one which has been specially made for the beloved.

From the information panel at the back of the sanctuary: “The Photographers Workroom is a community of artists who are committed to using their cameras as a means of personal creative expression. By lettting go of the need to craft the perfectly balanced image, we focus on the joy and process of creation through story-telling and portfolio development. With time and experimentation, we’ve expanded our practices beyond traditional photography into digital, sculptural and encaustic art.”

The show is, of course, open to the public, and will be on display until the end of November.

The show is primarily photography, but one monarch rules the sanctuary!

Ode to the Monarchs by Peggy Smith

When the sound of butterfly wings cannot be heard.
When the fiery orange upon the purple flowers is not seen.
When the silent sound of a butterfly resting on your shoulder is gone,
What then?
I am the butterfly spirit who stands amongst you reaching out.
My soft wings brush your dreams.
Listen, the monarchs are asking you
to awake.
Are you there?
