The season is not only filled with music events and activities, but also special worship occasions. Here’s the run-down of what’s happening this month in worship.
December 2 — First Sunday of Advent. We will be hanging greens and reflecting on and singing about the traditions associated with the greens that adorn the sanctuary during this “season of light.”
December 9 — Second Sunday of Advent. We have a guest preacher this week — the Rev. Kurt Shaffert whom we heard briefly on World Communion Sunday.
December 16 — Third Sunday in Advent. The children will be performing a short Christmas pageant during worship — called Christmas Around the World.
December 23 — Fourth Sunday in Advent. We’ll sing lots and I’ll preach a Christmas sermon.
December 24 — Christmas Eve. We offer two worship experiences and encourage you to attend with your friends and family.
4:00 — We’ll read two different versions of the Christmas story, the first from the Gospel of Luke (with, of course, the addition of the Magi from Matthew!) and a secular story, yet to be decided. This service is an hour, but fast-paced and includes singing Silent Night by candlelight at the end. It is fitting for all ages!
7:00 pm — Is the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols. The lessons tell the story behind the story in the old books of the Jewish Bible and the Christian birth story as told in the Gospels. The choir sings their hearts out tonight! You won’t want to miss it.
December 30 — First Sunday after Christmas. Join us as we worship in the glow of Christmas just past at our usual time.
