The meeting was called to order at 10:49 AM.
I. Presentation, discussion, and action on the minutes of the January 26, 2020 annual meeting.
The minutes of the January 26, 2020 Annual Meeting were accepted as written. The motion to accept was made by D. King and seconded by P. Sabin. The motion passed unanimously.
II. Presentation, discussion, and action on the reports of the officers, boards, and
organizations for 2020 (excepting the 2021 budget).
It was moved by P. Sabin, seconded by D. King, to accept the reports. Passed.
III. Presentation, discussion, and action on the the FY 2021 budget proposal.
It was moved by C. Grenier, and seconded by M. Roche.
C. Grenier said despite pandemic, it was a good financial year for us due to members exceeding pledges, an anonymous $10,000 donation, and D. Leavitt’s efforts to secure the PPP loan that was forgiven. Instead of a deficit, we are hoping to break even with next year’s budget. The church also received a $150,000 donation to create a Gage Family Fund. Another PPP is being floated for 2021, which is expected to be forgiven. D. Leavitt explained how the PPP forgiveness works, turning the loan into a grant. The 2021 budget was approved as presented.
IV. Presentation, discussion, and action on the proposed slate of board members and officers for the year 2021.
It was moved by C. Senning, seconded by P. Sabin, to approve and accept the slate of
board member and officers for the year 2021. Passed.
P. Plagge & C. Lawrence thanked those passing off their boards.
V. Presentation, discussion, and action on the Trustees recommendation to distribute any
investment gain in 2020.
D. King moved that the investment gains, realized and unrealized, earned on the Church’s Trustees Funds be allocated to the various funds in proportion to the respective fund balances. This allocation excludes the newly formed “Gage Family Fund” which was created in December of 2020. Seconded by P. Sabin and passed. D. King went through the financial year with us, echoing C. Grenier. The Trustees feel some of this money should be used for Building Committee projects while we’re still in good shape. L. Petit & P. Plagge met with someone about the stained-glass windows who recommended starting repair work. The church also needs painting, as well as replacing the signboard out front, so these three projects could use funding. Waterbury’s Main St. Project should finish in July, so painting could begin in August.
VI. Other business.
On the subject of staff, Bob Lucier, the sexton/custodian retired in 2020 due to his own health issues/dealing with COVID cleaning directives.
P. Plagge gave thanks for the entire staff this year. He thanked P. Sabin, who had to deal with working from home, E. Kroncke & M. Austin for having to do so much through technology, and for how L. Morse really made the most of her online presence with the children. And of course Ned for his amazing flowers. P. Plagge also thanked the congregation for showing up every week.
T. Leavitt appreciated P. Plagge’s report of his year and all that he has done for the church, in spite of a pandemic.
C. Senning echoed all that.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:09 AM, January 31, 2021.
Respectfully submitted,
Jill Chase, Clerk
