Thank you Strawberry Festival volunteers!

This year’s Strawberry Festival was a success, both socially and financially because of the contributions of so many of you — way too many to list. But for those of you who are otherwise unable to participate in various weekend activities, but who dropped off food early in the week — Thank you! For those who hulled strawberries, set-up tables, served meals, cleaned dishes, cleaned up after, got rid of garbage we couldn’t have done it without you.

According to our SignUp Genius, we had 147 slots filled. We know that many of you signed up for more than one slot and that many more came to help without signing up! That’s how you get it done!

Children’s Sunday – June 16!

We announced, prematurely it turns out!, that this coming Sunday, June 2, would be Children’s Sunday. We’ve had to postpone that until June 16. We will watch the video that children have spent much of the past year working on and will plant the peace-pole as a culmination of their efforts. Please come and be prepared to move around, as we will also make a new “stained glass window” using hand paint. The finished product will be hung in the hole where the latest window was removed for restoration.

THE MOB & STONEWALL: Unraveling the Mafia’s Influence in the 1969 Uprising

Mobster, Vito Genovese

Waterbury Congregational Church, Waterbury, VT

The Stonewall Uprising stands as a pivotal moment in history—a fierce response by the LGBTQ community to relentless police raids. On June 28, 1969, the New York City Police descended upon the Stonewall Inn, a beloved gathering spot for LGBTQ individuals. But this time, the community fought back, igniting several nights of protest on the streets. Yet, amidst the well-known narrative lies a lesser-discussed chapter: the historical role of The Mafia, which happened to own the Stonewall Inn.

Join us on June 19, 2024, during Pride Month, for an enlightening conversation with Alex Hortis, acclaimed author of “The Mob and The City.” Hortis will delve into the intricate web of relationships, revealing how The Mafia unintentionally played a part in sparking the renowned Stonewall Uprising.

Welcome Table Flowers in Ned’s Absence

Because Ned Davis, our Minister of Liturgical Floral Design, is out of commission for the rest of the summer and early fall, due to his surgery at the end of May, we are on our own! We can do it — the flowers can be as simply as a glass of water with some irises (or one!) from your garden — or, let your creative genius go crazy! Either way, please visit our sign up where you can pick open dates and even offer a dedication. In fact, please do write a short dedication, or simply a note saying these flowers are for our enjoyment.
